Fearless Girls – Back to School Night!
On the evening of August 30, Oasys hosted a “Back to School Night” for the Fearless Girls group from the Boys and Girls Club of the Greater Washington area.
The night began with a dinner catered by a local DC restaurant, Sorisso Bistro. The girls enjoyed plates full of pesto pasta, chicken salad, homemade lasagna and meatballs, and a giant dessert table full of sweets imported from Italy AND France! After dinner, the girls had the treat of meeting with Christine Calvosa, the current Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the FCC, to learn about her experience as a female working in tech. It was an inspiring conversation, where many of the girls shared their desire to work in cyber security, programming, and development.
Following the guest speaker portion of the evening, the girls rotated through a variety of activity stations. One of the stations included a computer programming exercise that required the girls to describe – in the fewest amount of steps possible – how to get from the beginning of the maze to the end. This activity stressed teamwork and the importance of coding efficiently.
It was a wonderful experience for the Oasys team to see how bright the future of tech is and we look forward to hosting more events for today’s youth.
